A major debate has erupted in the UK over the roles of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie after new details about their recent business dealings emerged. Prominent journalist Amanda Platell has publicly argued that the daughters of Prince Andrew should lose their royal titles, claiming they are using their positions for commercial advantage.
The controversy stems from a lavish tea event hosted by Beatrice at the Ritz-Carlton in Riyadh, attended by high-profile Saudi investors. Platell insists that events like these blur the lines between private business ventures and royal representation, potentially damaging the monarchy’s credibility.
“This is not about personal income alone,” Platell wrote.
“By leveraging their royal titles to secure deals, Beatrice and Eugenie are confusing the public about their roles and undermining trust in the institution. If they want to continue these Middle East business partnerships, they should give up their titles.”
Platell warned that such behaviour risks undoing the royal family’s slow recovery from the scandals surrounding Prince Andrew, noting that involvement in private commercial deals – especially overseas – could reignite public suspicion and scrutiny.
The princesses have made no public comment, and palace officials have avoided addressing the claims. Royal observers, however, say the situation could intensify ongoing discussions about how far members of the Royal Family should go in mixing personal enterprise with royal identity in the modern age.
