A local ‘American Idol’ contestant making a name for himself on the popular singing show is now announcing a local pop-up show.
The 22-year-old singer from Murphy, Braden Rumfelt, has announced that he will be performing at Western Carolina University’s University Center Grand Room on Thursday, March 5 at 6:30 p.m.
“Hey, BarstoolWCU and the rest of y’all Catamounts, what’s going on? I’m Braden Rumfelt. I’m on American Idol this season, doing really well, and I’m bringing my band up soon,” Rumfelt said in the social media post.

Rumfelt goes on to ask students to get the word out about the concert, saying it’s free for students but not for their parents.
“If they want to show up too, they’re gonna have to spend some money, but anyways, yeah, you guys spread the word and get there, and it’s gonna be fun,” Rumfelt said.
Rumfelt is fresh off the Hollywood Week episode of ‘American Idol’ where he sang a cover of Sam Smith’s “I’m Not the Only One.”
As previously reported, his rendition of the song drew a standing ovation from all three judges: Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie.
After Rumfelt’s performance, the “Play It Again” singer Luke Bryan, according to People Magazine, said, “He might just win,” while looking at Underwood and Richie.

Rumfelt began the competition by auditioning with the song “Girl Crush” by Little Big Town, which Rumfelt and his twin brother performed together.
On the Monday, Feb. 23 episode, Rumfelt’s future within the competition was left on a cliffhanger as he awaits Lionel Richie’s decision.

Viewers have to wait until Monday, March 2, to learn if Rumfelt made it to the “Golden Room,” earning another chance to sing. The episode ended with his name being called, but without revealing whether he made it to the next round or not.
“American Idol” continues Monday, March 2, with only 30 contestants moving forward.

During the Monday, Feb. 23 episode of the singing competition show, the “Play It Again” singer was impressed by Braden Rumfelt’s Hollywood Week performance to Sam Smith’s “I’m Not the Only One” — and predicted a bright future for him on the show.
“Can you make it look harder next time? We knew you were special in your audition,” Bryan, 49, said to the 22-year-old North Carolina native.
“We knew it, we felt it, we’re here to support you, we’re here to lift you up, we want you to have fun,” he continued. “Man, you picked the perfect song. Lean in, be you, be yourself and get ready for the ride. It’s gonna be really, really special.”
