American Idol Promotional Post Becomes Controversial

During Monday night’s episode of the American Idol, Carrie Underwood shared a post to X, saying “Spoiler alert…I get booed A LOT from our Hollywood Week audience.”

Since this post was shared around 10:20 PM, it’s clear that it was intentionally shared to promote Hollywood Week, which starts on Monday, February 23. Instead, it seems as if the intention was lost. There are limited responses that actually reference the talent show.

Instead, multiple users share criques of Underwood, saying that people should be booing her are due to her support of Donald Trump. In case you may have missed it, the American Idol judge performed at the president’s 2025 inauguration. Appearing as a performer at the inauguration was Underwood’s first time discussing her political views.

Here's Why Trump Pulled Carrie Underwood Close After Performance

“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” Underwood told E! News in a statement ahead of the inauguration. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”

It’s important here to note that Hollywood week in 2026 was filmed in Nashville, Tennessee, not Los Angeles, California like in previous years. It’s too soon to tell just yet, but chances are, singers were disagreeing with Underwood’s commentary, not her political affiliation.

X Users Call The Judge ‘MAGA Girl’

Though there weren’t many positive comments on the post, there was one urging the judge to speak out regarding her political stance now. This person clearly explained that people on the app may be upset with Underwood because she “support[s] a pedophile.”

“Explain to your supporters that just like a lot of them you were tricked by a conman who had a lot of help from a lot of bad people,” an X user replied. “Admit you’re sorry and made a bad decision supporting a man who hurt LITTLE GIRLS. We all make mistakes but learning to admit when we are wrong, apologizing & correcting are behavior is the right way to handle the situation but wishing it to go away won’t help.”

Others are instead digging their criticisms in deeper, mentioning that she deserved the treatment she received at Hollywood week.

“We don’t care, that’s what u deserve MAGA girl,” an X user wrote in a quoted repost.

Others instead note that Underwood should “maybe try being a better person” if she wants people to not boo her in the future. Some fans are even boycotting the show due to Underwood’s views.

“Tempting… but you won’t get me to watch girl. A view to you would be supporting a pedo protector,” another X user wrote.
