John Legend’s Quiet Strategy for The Voice Season 29 Is Starting to Come Into Focus

In a The Voice first, when the talent competition returns for its 29th season later this month, all three of its coaches – Kelly ClarksonAdam Levine and John Legend – are previous winners.

Kelly has the most wins of the three, clocking in at four: Seasons 14, 15, 17, and 21, winning with Brynn CartelliChevel ShepherdJake Hoot, and the trio Girl Named Tom, respectively.

Adam has three wins during his 16-season tenure as a coach: Season 1 with Javier Colon, Season 5 with Tessanne Chin, and Season 9 with Jordan Smith.

And John has only one. In his debut season, Season 16, he took the title with Maelyn Jarmon, so he is due for his second win, and in this exclusive first-look video, he’s making plans to do just that.

His strategy to beat the other coaches is a secret, though, and he isn’t telling us.

Season 29 of The Voice is being labeled, “Battle of Champions,” and the format will run for four rounds, each featuring a distinct Voice first:

Blinds: Coaches compete against each other in the “Triple Turn Competition” (vying for the most three-chair turns) with the winner gaining a special advantage in the next round.
